The exhibition in the floating boathouse in V\u00e5ge first opened with an event in the V\u00e5ge marina in June 2010, with a high turnout every summer since.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The exhibition has since moved to Tinghuset in Uggdal (see below link to map), a house brimming with culture, including the Tysnes sogelag<\/a> and Tysnes bygdekvinnelag<\/a>, whose exhibitions are also worth your while. Several annual events are held in cooperation with the two, including visits from the local schools. The exhibitions are available for viewing by appointment on phone number +47\u00a0975\u00a096\u00a0231<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The exhibition helps visualising the story of the Tysnes emigration to the USA, and the men who later came to be professional crew members on board racing and touring yachts throughout the 1900\u20131940 time-frame.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Only a part of this fascinating story is on display, and came to be through the efforts of the local yacht sailor exhibition charity, Venelaget for J\u00e5ttutstillinga<\/em>, supervised by the Sunnhordland Museum’s expertise. The exhibition is built mainly on information curated by Mr Kjell Magnus \u00d8kland<\/strong> and Mr Knut Arne Gr\u00f8teide<\/strong>, based on their initial exhibition at \u00c5rbakka during the summer of 2001.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The charity has expressed an intent to maintain that curation, of various items, photos and recounts, to which end any<\/em> contribution is much appreciated<\/em>.
